The changing seasons

We live in New York, which means 4 real seasons.  Having lived in London most my life previously I’m used to this, but the New York seasons take it up a notch.  A by product of having such a cold winter seems to be a fascination with winter clothing, looking around the city this generally seems to mean “which North Face jacket shall i buy this year.”

I happened across a different brand, an Arcteryx insulated softshell that became my goto jacket for my first NY winter. This ended up being my first Arcteryx product, but was by no means my last. I even became an unofficial spokesperson when we went winter coat shopping for PM we ended up getting her an Arcteryx piece last season and she is now another convert. The brand no less than inspired us and set a benchmark for not only products that we have since purchased, but envision to take to market in other sectors.

So, coming to the point of this post, despite NY having a rather brutal winter, its actually become one of my favorite seasons. There is a satisfaction being wrapped up and insulated beyond caring during a windy 15F day in the city. Equipped with the right clothing and equipment, working out in winter can be a rather relaxing experience. We take Isa for runs around central park, in a jogging stroller and wrapped up warm in her Snug².

p.s. If you are looking for winter gear this year,   don’t just look at North Face, check out Arcteryx and the many other great brands out there including Mountain Hardware, Patagonia, Marmot, REI and Eastern Mountain Sports to name a few. The quality of these brands is superb, and as I’ve discovered since moving across the pond extremely the performance they offer is useful beyond the ski slopes and mountains.
